I know this topic is covered on several of the other boards, but the Savage seems to have a particular problem with this because of being a single cylinder that generates a WHOLE bunch of heat at the header pipe, causing it to turn either blue or gold depending on the fuel/air mixture. What I have in mind is buying some automotive "header paint", the kind used on hot-rod engines and such. It is specially formulated to withstand EXTREMELY high temperatures. I have found some that is the color of aluminum. It is the same color as the motor and cooling fins on the Savage. What I'm thinking of doing is painting the header pipe and muffler on Stef's bike with this stuff, because the chrome that Suzuki uses on the header isn't the best in the world, and I will want the muffler to match. It will resemble the polished aluminum SuperTrapp mufflers when I'm done (I hope!). Does anyone have any input on this subject? Like I said, I know it works on automobiles just fine.
